Client Problems

The roof on Kirtley Co’s large unit was showing multiple signs of degradation with splits in the membrane at roof level resulting in a multitude of areas of water ingress. The client wanted to eliminate the leaks and preserve the buildings integrity whilst improving the thermal values of the building for the future ahead.

Our Solution

Roofclad System’s supplied and erected a scaffold Haki access tower. We had a double handrail scaffold erected to all the exposed roof edges, all in accordance with the Working at Height Regulations. All materials were raised to roof using a Spiering’s SK1265-AT6 60m mobile tower crane.

Work commenced by progressively cleaning the entire 4630m² roof area of all silt and debris, lowering to ground and clearing from site. We lose-laid a separation fleece between new and existing roofing membranes, mechanically fastened through the existing built up single ply roofing to the existing metal decking, using Ejot fixings and plates. This was followed by a Renolit Alkorplan 1.5mm single ply waterproofing system, fixed through the existing roofing to the decking with self-drilling screws and Ejot stress plates at the side laps. All side and end laps were hot air welded in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

Renolit Alkorplan reinforced 1.5mm single ply was installed to all the upstands and perimeter details, hot air welded. Peel bars were installed to all perimeter, upstands, verge details, protrusions and gutters and mechanically fastened into position. A 0.7mm plastisol coated steel external cap flashing was measured then manufactured at our Washington factory and then installed to all roof perimeters.

The adjacent factory that we were working on has a metal clad roof. We installed approximately 210lm of Weatherfast gutter liner. We were able to measure these on site and then manufacture them at our Washington based factory.
