Ringtons Tea
South Kirby
Roof Refurbishment and Maintenance
14 Weeks
A request was made for Roofclad Systems to carry out a detailed roof survey at the Ringtons Tea distribution centre in South Kirkby. Upon closer inspection of the roof, it was identified that a new roof system would be required. After assessing their options Ringtons opted to have the external roof panels stripped and re-sheeted, along with new gutters.
The client was concerned that the roof above their South Kirkby distribution centre was aging and potentially in a bad state of repair. After inspection, it was identified that the existing profiled metal sheets to the roof were showing signs of corrosion, as were the fixings that secure the profiled metal roof sheets in position. Although these sheets were not in a dangerous condition the corrosion would potentially lead to water ingress and structural failure in the future if not addressed.
It was important to the client that the distribution centre remained operational throughout the program of works. With this in mind it was imperative that there was minimal disruption to the everyday operations at the site, including access for large wagons to be loaded and unloaded.
Internally a plain safe net/debris net system was put in place in accordance with the recommendations of EN1263-2. All connections were knotted around primary truss members, temporary support ropes and other suitable anchorages. Externally a triple handrail scaffold to all exposed roof edges was erected in accordance with the Working at Height Regulations. A scaffold access tower to eaves level complete with fixed ladder gave access to roof level.
